The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) and the United Nations University(UNU) will be co-hosting an open symposium tentatively entitled "
The Role of Peace Keeping Operation in the Process of Nation Building - Peace Building Experience in East Timor -", with the support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
This open symposium will examine the transformation in UN peacekeeping operations within the context of nation building in East Timor, and the importance of such operations for today' s international community.
Representatives of the UN, the East Timorese government, and NGOs will serve as panelists for the symposium, presenting ideas and frankly discussing conflict prevention and peace building from their respective viewpoints.
