Akemi SUTO joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan after graduating from Keio University in 1988. She served as a diplomat in Washington D.C., Paris and Dhaka, Bangladesh. Assignments in Foreign Service in Japan include the issues of disarmament and arms control, the Japan-US Security Treaty, climate change, as well as regional affairs in South West Asia. She joined JIIA as Policy Director, CDAST in 2017 and was appointed as Secretary General in 2020. Akemi SUTO is an amateur opera singer.
